Become a Tutor - Learn about volunteer tutor opportunities at MPL


Having trouble with homework? Brainfuse can help! Seven days a week, from
2 p.m. to 11p.m.
, live tutors can assist you one-on-one with understanding and better responding to your assignments. Help is available for all grades, from first grade to college level classwork. Subjects taught run the gamut from basic reading and math to chemistry and calculus! Tutoring is available in both English and Spanish. In addition to live tutoring, Brainfuse offers a Writing Lab; SAT, GED and ACT test preparation; shareable flash cards, tests and games (that you can create!) and group study support. Resume and cover letter assistance is also provided for adult job seekers.

Library subscription. Available for use within City of Milwaukee libraries and by remote access to City of Milwaukee library cardholders.

Drop-In Tutoring for Adults

If you are an adult and looking for a tutor or you are interested in becoming a volunteer tutor to work with an adult learner, please call the Literacy Helpline at 286-3117 for more information.

The Milwaukee Public Library offers adults help in improving their reading, writing, math, GED and English speaking skills at the following locations:

Teacher in the Library

Teachers are available after school to assist both students and parents with academic support and encouragement. Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Teacher in the Library is offered September thru early June.

Teachers will help students:
  • focus
  • use appropriate learning strategies
  • find the best resources for completing their homework assignments
  • find books appropriate for their reading level
Teachers will help parents:
  • learn how to help their children at home with school assignments
  • by answering questions they have regarding their child’s homework

*Mondays-Wednesdays, 3:30-6:30 p.m. & Thursdays, 3:30-5:30 p.m.

There will be no Teacher in the Library April 14-21, 2014.
