Ready to Read Family Programs
The library has workshops for families to learn more about the Six Skills for Early Literacy and fun, easy ways to develop them in children ages 0-5. All children's programs held at the library reinforce these skills. Search the Library Events Calendar for Books2Go programs and activities at your library such as:

Play & Learn at Washington Park LibraryJoin us each Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the story nook at Washington Park Library for imaginative play for families with young children. Learn how talking, singing, reading, playing and having fun together can impact your
child to learn and grow in a positive way. Each program is designed as a fun family outing that incorporates development of early literacy skills through play, music and art.

Llama Llama’s Fun-O-Rama

Love Llama Llama? Listen to Anna Dewdney’ s popular books and enjoy activities based on the characters.

February 1
Stretching with Storybooks

Str -r-r-e-e-e-tch while reading books with YogaConnects LLC! Work on the balancing, stretching and breathing tech- niques used in yoga based on the characters in the book.

Messy Art

Listen to a great story then create a fun project to take home. Remember to wear your smock!

Kindermusik presents: Family & Friends

Sing, dance, rhyme, move, and play your way thr ough this celebration of our very special Family & Friends! Using our imaginations, we’ll visit our friends’ houses, interact with family, go to the market, play with playmates, and more. Everyone is invited to make music with family and friends!

Grocery Store

Welcome to our grocery store! Make a grocery list, help customers, run the cash register, and go shopping!

March 1
Pizza Parlor

Grab your apron and get ready to work at the pizza parlor. Practice making pretend yummy pizzas, taking orders, and delivering your delicious creations to eager customers.

Messy Art

Listen to a great story then create a fun project to take home. Remember to wear your smock!

Kindermusik presents: Pet Parade

Use your body and imagination to gallop like a horse, scam- per like a mouse, “swim” your hands, and fly scarves like birds while developing vocabulary, imagination, and more.

Post Office

Create a card, letter, or package and take turns setting up routes, delivering and receiving mail. Children will enjoy stamping, “writing” and recognizing letters they know.

Bakery Shop

Put on your apron, roll up your sleeves and preheat the oven. Take turns being the baker, the server and the customer.

Kindermusik presents: Up in the Sky

Explore all of the floating, flying, fluttering things we can find Up in the Sky. We’ll use our imaginations to fly kites, stretch like clouds, and dance like stars. Fire up your imagination, because we mean it when we say...the sky’s the limit!

Hopping Around the Frog Pond

Families with young children are invited to our Washington Park Library Frog Pond! Learn about the metamorphosis of frogs from spawn to tadpole to full-fledged frog. Practice your hopping skills, sing songs, read stories and pretend to raise a frog family in our water table pond.

Play with Your Food

During this exploration of the senses, children will interact with food through stories and creative art activities.

 

Juega y aprende/Play & Learn
¡Jueguen con nosotros! Las familias con niños pequeños son bienvenidas a una hora divertida e interactiva con cuentos y actividades de juego. Aprendan cuán fácil es desarrollar las destrezas de alfabetización a través del juego y la lectura. ¡Traigan la imaginación! Es un programa gratuito y no se requiere inscripción previa. Ir de campamento
