First Grade. First Card.

Dear First Grade Teachers:

We know how hard your students are working to become readers. We want to help by getting them their first library card!

To help generate excitement about being a reader, a representative from the Milwaukee Public Library will come to your classroom and talk with your students about the public library and how to get a library card. This 30-minute visit includes a short DVD about the library and how to be a responsible library card holder. Library staff will share some exciting new books with special appeal to first graders. Our visit supports CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL 1.2, SL 1.3. Plus, you’ll receive a free book for your classroom library compliments of the Milwaukee Public Library.

Contact us today to book your visit! Call 286-3904 or fill out the
First Grade. First Card. Classroom Visit Form.

The "Imagination starts here" image is the creation of artist Thomas Johnson. First conceived during an assignment in art school and inspired by his own love of the library as a child, Johnson shared this idea with the library. When asked if we could use his idea for our campaign, he heartily agreed.
